Nurse in £10,000 NHS fraud

5 March 2011

A nurse was sentenced to 18 months probation at Glasgow Sheriff Court after defrauding the NHS of almost £10,000.

Tanya McDonald, 33, of Maryhill, Glasgow, was deputy health records manager at Beatson West of Scotland Cancer Centre.

Her duties included compiling monthly duty sheets which she altered to add overtime hours she had not worked.

During the period February 1, 2009, to March 4, 2010, she received £9,929 in extra salary payments. She was dismissed and later pled guilty to fraud.

Maggie Worsfold of NHS Scotland Counter Fraud Services said: "NHS budgets are stretched and this fraud took money from the care of seriously ill patients."
