Fraudster fakes her own dad's death to get time off with sick pay

26 June 2013

Fiona Gillen, 45, worked at the Scottish Bowel Screening Centre, Dundee.

She admitted to fraudulently claiming special paid leave, following the death of her father and obtaining medical certificates from her GP, who had diagnosed her with a bereavement reaction.

An investigation uncovered that her father was in fact alive and well and living in Ipswich.

When appearing in court, Fiona Gillen was found with a six-inch kitchen knife in her bag.
