Dentist is struck off for fraud

2 November 2014

An investigation by CFS revealed that Thomas Shanks had made false claims to the NHS.

These included laboratory constructed special trays, used to obtain detailed impressions during denture treatment, which were never used for the patient.

He also claimed for home visits that were never undertaken.

The Professional Conduct Committee of the GDC found Shanks dishonesty to be “highly damaging to his fitness to practice and to public confidence in the dental profession.”

He was suspended and unless an appeal is received, will be struck-off the register.
